Another month flies by

Here we are at the start of June and things have progressed quite well with the British Peninsula army, mainly because my wife was hospitalized (non-COVID related) at the start of the month for nearly a week, fortunately she is well enough now.  Though I do think it was all a ploy to get out of giving me a return game and a chance to even the score.

The infantry were put on hold a couple of weeks ago as I was awaiting some new flags from Maverick Models, typically for me, I had the figures for several line infantry battalions but no flags and flags for some light infantry but no figures, so, I decided to make a start on doing the cavalry and that is where I hit the first snag.  I had originally planned to have either twelve or sixteen figures per base, as I could get eighteen in two ranks on one of my ECW bases.  Of course I had forgotten about the regimental name strip that I am putting on the back of all the bases and that meant that I couldn't get the two ranks on the base as neatly as I wanted.  So, I have had to drop all the regiments down to nine figures per base which means that regiments such as the Lifeguards, Scots Greys or Grenadiers a Cheval will not look as impressive as I would like, but at least it means the bases will look quite good.  I have managed to get all the heavy cavalry done for both the Peninsula and for the Hundred Days, I have also finished the light dragoons for the Peninsula along with the 10th Hussars, so I have just got three more regiments of hussars to do to complete the British cavalry in the Peninsula.

All of my outstanding purchase orders have now arrived so I think I will take a break from painting this weekend to sort out the French cavalry as all those bags will need to be reorganised.  Then, after finishing off the hussars I will get the light battalions and final few line battalions finished before beginning on the French.

The terrain I ordered are fantastic, the hills from The Scene are going to be great and should allow me to try and get Edgehill on the table. The earthworks I got from Battlescale Wargaming Buildings and Total Battle Miniatures will look great once I get around to doing Shieldfield.

Dismounted Infantry and Vapnartak 2019

The week leading up to Vapnartak was a bit of a busy one, but I managed to get the Dragoons finished and as a bonus I got the Kings Lifeguard done as well.  My hunt for Royalist dragoon guidons was a little less successful though, I have painted the regiment as James Usshers Regiment of Dragoons and the only guidon I could find that might relate to the regiment belonged to Colonel Henry Washington who took command after James Ussher was killed.  So, I am just going to paint a basic plain guidon in black. I am fairly happy with the way they turned out, including the guidon.  The only problem was that there was not enough room on the base for the horse holder and horses, I will put these onto a separate 30mm x 30mm base and place them on the table when they are needed. Has it really been six months?

I cannot believe that I have let this blog slip for the past six months, I really must make more of an effort to keep things up to date in the future.  So, what have I been doing for the past six months, a good question that my wife seems to ask me often. Before I get on to the painting progress that has been made, I will say that my 'show calendar' is currently on track as I managed to attend Joy of Six in July and also Claymore in August, the next show is Border Reiver at the start of September, though I do not have to travel to far for that one and then Battleground at the end of November.  I might try to do Fiasco in Leeds at the end of October, but it might be a problem with it being a Sunday. 2020 Recap and 2021 plans

 Well, 2020 is finally over and it is time to have a look back at the plans I wrote at the end of 2019 and to see how they worked out. Let me start with the easiest one to look at, my show list.  Basically, I made it to Hammerhead in March and that proved to be the only one that went ahead that I had planned to go to.  One good thing about that though was that my spend on figures and terrain is right down this year, especially with Baccus only opening for short periods.  So, what are the plans for 2021 well that is mainly going to be decided by what happens with COVID and the vaccine rollout, but as Hammerhead has already been pushed back until July I am figuring on going to mainly the shows in the second half of the year, which in addition to the rearranged Hammerhead show I will try to get to Joy of Six, Claymore, Fiasco, Border Reiver and Battleground shows, provided they go ahead that is.
