Autumnal Update
Well, this entry is about three months later than I had planned it to be, but a lot has been happening here that have meant I have not felt like doing much. In the middle of September my father in law passed away quite suddenly and since then I seem to have succumbed to ennui and a return of the low mood that gripped me several years ago. So, I have not really picked up a paintbrush since then, but, hopefully that will change soon.
However, before all this happened I did manage to do a few positive things. Firstly I finished off the Royalist and Parliament armies so they at least are ready to go. The Covenanters are also coming along with 12 of the sixteen regiments of foot already painted and based, that just leaves four regiments of foot, thirteen horse regiments a couple of dragoon regiments and some artillery to do before the end of the year. So, no pressure then. I have also managed to purchase quite a few new buildings, which are proving to be something that I enjoy painting and once I get my paintng mojo back I will have lots to keep me busy.
I did manage to make it to Border Reiver in Gateshead at the start of September but as I suspected I failed to get to Leeds in October. The final show of the year for me will be Battleground at the end of November, I had better make it there as I am picking up an order from Baccus.
I also still have to sort out a table, which seems to get pushed further on to the back burner as the room I was going to be using is currently being used to store stuff from my father in law's house.
Right, now to look forward to the new year and the plans for 2020. I have decided to dive back into the Napoleonic era, both on land and also on the high seas. For my land campaigns I have selected 1813 as a starting point, and will be getting a British, Prussian and, of course, French armies. This allows me to delve into the Peninsula and the forces of the Vittoria campaign and also the liberation of Germany campaign, for the German campaign I will also pick up a handful of Russian units as well.
Naval wargaming has always held a special place in my heart, and in the past I have had both WW2 and Cold War fleets, in fact I still have my Cold War fleets though I am sure some of the aircraft have disappeared. So, earlier this year I was toying with the idea of getting a few WW1 British and German ships, but looking at it 1/3000 scale ships would require far too large a table to use properly. So, I considered 1/6000 but again the table size was proving to be problematic. Then at a show I ended up chatting to Tumbling Dice and he convinced me to consider 1/2400 Napoleonic naval battles and even though it is a larger scale, the shorter range of the weapons means that I should be able to get it to fit on my table (whenever it is ready!)
That sort of brings things up to date, and gives me a target for the rest of this year, to finish pff the Covenanters and to get a table sorted.
