More Progress

The past week has been filled .with unexpected arrivals.  First to arrive were the standards from Wargames Design, which arrived 48 hours after they were ordered, I will certainly be ordering from them again.  The quality of the standards is amazing and as a bonus two sheets of Irish Confederate standards were included, so I have started to use them this week and they do look good, but more on that later.

Next to arrive was a package from the Pike & Shot Society containing the rulebook Twilight of Divine Right and the ECW Scenario book.  The rules look quite good and the good news is that I would not have to rebase the regiments to use them.  The army lists look straight forward, but there are no lists for the Scots or for the Irish armies of the period, I will certainly be trying these rules out, after testing out how the Polemos rules go.  The scenario book covers the major engagements in England during the First Civil War as well as an Irish battle and a couple of Scottish battles of the Second and Third Civil War.

The final delivery later in the week came from Baccus, which was a couple of weeks earlier than anticipated, which was a nice surprise.  Everything looks good in the package, though the pikemen seem to have more flash on them than the previous batch I got and on one of the artillery pieces the wheels have not cast properly making it junk.  Still, apart from those minor points the figures look great.

Before I can start on them though, I need to get the other batch finished, and this week I managed to make a large dent into what is left to do, by finishing three foot regiments and a cavalry regiment.  The foot were Sir William Pennymans, Sir Edward Frittons and Richard Bolles regiments while the cavalry was the Prince of Wales regiment.

The cavalry though was going to take a bit more work, especially as I had some nice new standards to use now.  I decided to cut off the original standard that was cast with the figure, but to keep the pole.  I thought I had managed to achieve this, but when I came to straighten the pole, it snapped clean off, so, what to do now,  fortunately in my box of modelling spares and equipment I had some 0.5mm brass wire which I managed to stick to the figure to use as a pole.  In fact it worked so well I will be replacing the poles on all the cavalry regiments to use the wire instead, the only thing I will change is that instead of just sticking the pole in place I will drill aa hole to hold it better in place.  This time the standard looks amazing.

So, all that is left to do now is a single regiment of foot and two regiments of horse, then I can begin the next batch of figures.
