Royalist beginnings

As I live in Newcastle upon Tyne but come from Worcester, I think my first batch of figures will be Royalist.

I decided to go with Baccus figures as they look great and they had great reviews.  The last time I ordered some 6mm figures it was from Heroics & Ros and they were not the best castings I had ever seen.  Still a lot can happen in thirty years and I am sure H & R figures are better now.
I ordered a booster pack of infantry, which makes eight regiments of thirty six figures (24 musket, 8 pike and 4 command), I also ordered some cavalry which will give me enough figures to make five regiments of nine figures.  So, that is a total of 333 figures, hopefully by the time I have them all done I will know if I am capable of painting in this scale.

So while I waited for the figures to arrive I spent several weeks researching coat colours of the regiments on both sides of the conflict.  I managed to track down details for quite a few foot regiments, but horse and dragoon regiment details were not easy to track down so I will be improvising with those.

These regiments will be painted as units that formed the King's Oxford Army.

New Location and a return to the beginning

 Well, things can sometimes move incredibly quickly at times.  Within a week of posting my last blog post, where I mentioned we were looking at downsizing, we were accepting the keys for a new property.  We have moved from a three bedroom house  into a two bedroom apartment, which suits my wife and her medical needs much better.  But, it does mean that I have lost the gaming and painting room, at least until eldest son decides to move out.  Fortunately, the painting station, figure cases and boxes of terrain have all managed to find a home in the main bedroom until they can move to their permanent home. Hill Line Defence (Programmed Wargame Scenarios 1)

Back in the first lockdown I decided to give the scenarios in the Programmed Wargame Scenarios book a try.  I controlled the attacking Royalist force, whilst the defending Parliamentarian force would be controlled by the rules given in the scenario, I will be using the Twilight of Divine Right rules again as I really like them. So, the background to this hypothetical battle is as follows.  The year is 1643 and King Charles feels that it is time that he needs to retake London, so he marches the Oxford Army south east towards Henley on Thames, little does the King know though that his plans have been betrayed to Parliament and part of the London Trained Bands have been mustered and are moving to intercept the Kings army to delay them until Essex can bring his army into play. More Finished Regiments

I finally managed to get the last few regiments from my initial order completed this week.  The foot were straight forward, but, this time on the cavalry regiments I removed the moulded standards and replaced them with brass wire poles to hold the standards from Wargames Designs.  The use of these standards really does improve the look of the regiments and I am very happy with the new poles. Here are the pictures of the regiments finished this week.  So, with the total now standing at eight regiments of foot and five regiments of horse completed that brings the total number of figures painted up to 333, just another 779 to go plus whatever I pick up at the show this coming Sunday.
