Twenty Four Days Later....

Well, we are now at the end of April and things have been progressing quite quickly on the painting front.  There are now a total of twenty six British infantry stands completed and they look really quite good, I have been using a different flock on the bases compared to the ECW bases I did as it adds a colour variation into the bases.  Also, I have started to uses some static grass tufts from Boon Town Metals which look great.  My painting still isn't too brilliant, but I am still happy with how the figures are turning out, I am also sticking by the flags from Maverick Models who managed to resize the flags from the order I placed up to 9mm to make them the same size as the flags from Baccus, so I am in the process of replacing the generic Baccus flags with the proper regimental flags from Maverick.

Here are two of the most recent battalions to be finished;

7th Royal Fusiliers

23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers

So, in addition to painting figures I have also been ordering yet more figures and also some terrain.  I have two orders in with Baccus, which should finish off the British and French forces and also make some headway into the Portuguese forces.  The first Baccus order went in just before the lockdown started and was dispatched today.  The second Baccus order will hopefully be here by the end of May, as that was only put in last weekend.  My order with Timecast is just for some MDF bases and a watermill model, I am getting some entrenchments from Battlescale as I want to use them to do the Battle of Shieldfield, as it is quite local to where I live, as is Newburn.  Finally I have order some hills from a supplier I have never used before called The Scene, they looked really good and I needed some thinner and longer hills than I have already got for battles like Edgehill and Cheriton.

After my last disaster with painting buildings, I have been putting a lot of work into trying to develop a better technique for painting them, my recent attempts are not perfect yet, but they are getting much better.

I never did get around to replaying the that first game using the Polemos rules, instead my wife, Helen, said that she fancied trying a game.  So, I decided to do Scenario One from One Hour Wargames again, as it is an easy starting point for her, the rolls for forces were the same so we both ended up with four regiments of foot, one of horse and a single artillery piece.  Using the army lists in Twilight of Divine Right the Parliamentarian army was certainly the stronger, so I gave this side to Helen thinking that the quality of the units would make up for her lack of experience.  I need not have worried too much as it was the dice that killed me and it started as soon as turn 2.  The second turn saw my regiment of horse flee from the field after coming under fire for the first time, this effectively wiped out my left flank.  From then on things went downhill fast and my army morale finally broke on the fifth turn after I lost my third unit.  Hopefully, I will get some revenge in the next game.
