Has it really been six months?
I cannot believe that I have let this blog slip for the past six months, I really must make more of an effort to keep things up to date in the future. So, what have I been doing for the past six months, a good question that my wife seems to ask me often.
Before I get on to the painting progress that has been made, I will say that my 'show calendar' is currently on track as I managed to attend Joy of Six in July and also Claymore in August, the next show is Border Reiver at the start of September, though I do not have to travel to far for that one and then Battleground at the end of November. I might try to do Fiasco in Leeds at the end of October, but it might be a problem with it being a Sunday.
On to the figures next, and I think it will be easier to show in table form;
So, both armies are nearly complete, I just need to finish off some extra infantry I purchased, as I wanted to make up some London Trained Band regiments, so split the pack between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians. The extra Royalist cavalry are just some spares that were left after finishing the Parliament regiments. Hopefully I will get some pictures taken when everything is finally finished. I have also picked up a Scottish army which I will get completed this autumn.
May first choice for figure storage were some document boxes, but the bases ended up sliding around too much, so I invested in a case from Tabletop Tyrant which will just about hold both English armies.
I also have a couple of 35 litre storage boxes which are holding the rest of the terrain that I purchased. On the subject of terrain, the set I bought from S & A Scenics is absolutely massive and will be more than enough for most battles. At the Joy of Six show I picked up some beautiful fences by GS Miniature Workshop and I am seriously tempted to pick up some of their Modular Forest pieces, walls and hedges which are beautifully modelled. In the past week I have managed to paint a handful of houses to finish off the immediate terrain items.
Of course having all the figures and the terrain ready means nothing without a table, and that is the one thing I still lack. I have abandoned the plan to buy a gaming table due to the costs involved, so plan B is to get a 9mm thick piece of MDF and cut it into two 3 foot by 4 foot sections and a 2 foot by 4 foot section, that should cover most table sizes that I will be needing. If I can get some time to get the room cleared properly then I should be finally playing a scenario by the middle of September.
That just about sums up everything that has happened in the past six months, outside of holidays and general family stuff. My next post I think will outline the plans for 2020 (yes, I am planning ahead already).
