A productive week
Well, this lockdown has given me the impetus to crack on with my painting. At the end of my previous post I was about to start painting the final couple of KGL battalions, well I managed to get them all finished and then started on another couple of Line infantry units as well as a Highlander and Rifle unit, the 92nd and the 60th. I also wanted to try using some flags that I got from Maverick Models .
The results were a little mixed, the flags were really small when compared to the Baccus figures I am using, so I ended up replacing them with Baccus flags. I like the range of flags from Maverick but I will have to find out if I can get them scaled up a little before I can use them again. The Highlanders turned out OK, though I think I should have mixed some black into the blue for the kilts.
The 60th (Royal American) base looks a little crowded for a unit in open order, when I come to doing the 95th Regiment battalions I will have to drop the number of figures on the base down significantly, probably to just eight figures on the base.
So, after all that I decided to do something different this weekend and dug out some Battlescale buildings to paint up. I wanted to try and sort out how to paint a decent thatched roof, but things started to go wrong from the start, I thought I had a grey primer can available, but it turns out I was wrong and I was stuck with a black primer only. The effect was that some buildings turned out ok while the ones with thatched rooves turned out horrible. I really should have waited, but I have quite a few more buildings that I can practice on. Here are a couple of pictures of the ones I did.
Today, I took a break from painting and decided to finally get a quick game in to try out the Twilight of Divine Right rules. The scenario was a quick one from the One Hour Wargames book, with just six units on each side, the Royalist ended up with three infantry regiments and three cavalry regiments, the Parliamentarians had four infantry, one cavalry and a dragoon regiment. I was not going to attempt any form of finesse it was just going to be both sides meeting somewhere in the middle and having a brawl to let me see how the rules worked. It was not a long game, lasting just 5 out of the 15 turns and it ended up with a Royalist victory. Reviewing the rules after I am sure I made a couple of mistakes, but it was a fun game and good to finally get some of the figures into action. Next time I will repeat the game but use the Polemos ECW rules.
So, what is the plan for the next week? Looks like it will be yet more painting of British infantry and buildings, and I think I will begin to look at planning what I need for the Portuguese regiments.

View from the Parliamentarian lines on Turn 3
The same view on Turn 4 which saw two infantry and the only cavalry regiment rout from the field.
